The Archer Claims Champions Week: Teenager Self Breaks Littler’s Record

Archie Self continued his rapid rise by lifting the Champions Week title at Season 15 of the MODUS Super Series, seeing off Andy Baetens 4-2 in a hard-fought final in Portsmouth.

‘The Archer’ had already stamped his authority on the event by topping Group A. On Finals Night, Self edged David Davies 4-3 in his opener, while Baetens dismantled Davies 4-0. Combined with the Belgian’s earlier 4-3 group win over Self, both men progressed to the semi-finals.

Across in Group 2, Scott Robertson made a strong statement by thrashing defending champion Derek Coulson 4-0, then squeezed past Darren Beveridge 4-3. Coulson kept his title hopes alive by whitewashing Beveridge, setting up an intriguing last-four clash.

Those hopes were dashed, however, as Baetens prevailed 4-3 against Coulson in a deciding leg. Self, meanwhile, produced a high-quality display to book his final spot, averaging 107.92 in a 4-2 victory over Robertson that set up a compelling showpiece.

In the final, Self punished some loose doubles from Baetens to open up a 3-1 lead. The Belgian dragged one back, but a clinical 16-darter from Self wrapped up the title and the winner’s cheque.
