UK Open Ready For Kick Start In Minehead

The 2024 Ladbrokes UK Open kickstarts this Friday from Butlin’s Minehead Resort, in the first PDC Major of the 2024 season, and less than three months from the final at Alexandra Palace.

Andrew Gilding claimed his first Major Title in last year’s staging, coming through a last leg decider in the Final (11-10) to defeat 3 Time Champion Michael van Gerwen.

The tournament will have a returning sponsor for 2024 in stalwarts Ladbrokes, who have associated themselves with other PDC competitions in the past including the World Darts Championship.

This event is always filled with surprise runs and shocks throughout, as this is the only event where the Order of Merit does not matter due to the open draw structure.

Reigning Champion Gilding and the remainder of the Top 32 in the PDC Rankings will enter in the Fourth Round, with Friday afternoon putting a few non-Tour Card holders up against players competing on the PDC Pro Tour.

The Riley’s qualifiers concluded over a week ago, with the likes of Leonard Gates, Kevin Burness, Thomas Lovely and Harry Gregory amongst the players to come through their respective competitions.

3 Time World Seniors Major winner Gates will take on former MODUS Super Series Champions Week winner Conan Whitehead on Stage 3, whilst 18-year-old Gregory will open his campaign against PDC Tour Card holder Rhys Griffin on Stage 8.

The opening tungsten tussle on the main stage will see two players who earnt their Tour Cards via European Qualifying School, go head-to-head.

Haupai Puha who is the first New Zealand representative to play on the PDC Pro Tour, will face former BDO World Champion Jelle Klaasen. The winner will take on the player that comes through the opening match on Stage 2 in the Round 2, as Connor Scutt takes on Wesley Plaisier.

2023 Semi Finalist Adam Gawlas will enter the action in the 3rd Round on Friday afternoon, as he awaits either Jarred Cole, Italian International Michelle Turetta or Robert Grundy.

For the likes of Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Luke Littler, etc they will start their campaigns on Friday evening, with the 4th Round Draw taking place following the conclusion of the opening afternoon session.

The 2024 Ladbrokes UK Open will begin from 11am Live on ITV 4, as the 22nd staging of the FA Cup of Darts starts this Friday.
