Marvin Van Velzen became the 8th MODUS Super Series Champion on Saturday as he was crowned the winner of Champions Week. The Dutch thrower overcame Jimmy Van Schie in the final and picked himself up a record personal prize money cheque.

Van Velzen, who entered the finale having finished 3rd in Group B on Thursday and Friday, began the night by winning just one of his two group phase matches, as he firstly suffered a defeat to Steve West, before defeating Derek Coulson to progress through to the Semi Finals, where he came up against Connor Scutt, and from there, Van Velzen dispatched ‘The Sniper’ 4-2 to book his place in the final.

In the decider, Van Velzen came up against Jimmy Van Schie, who’d defeated Steve West in the last four, and nothing separated the pair throughout the tie before Van Velzen sealed a 4-3 victory against his Dutch compatriot to pick up the Series Eight crown as well as the top place prize money.

The Modus Super Series returns on Monday with the start of Double Trouble Week, with the first of three days of Group A commencing, with the field including Robert Thornton, Richie Burnett and John Henderson.

Play will commence from 9:30am BST and will be streamed live on the Modus YouTube channel or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
