Talking Points is a regular area of the Darts World Website and involves important or smaller pieces of news or those stories which may need longer exposure than the 24hrs cycle usually allows. Darts World Extra 8 was no exception:
BDO’s Final Shame
What may, or may not, prove to be the final postscript for the BDO, was recently held via Lambert Smith Hampton auctions.
Trophies from all the major BDO tournaments, including the World Championships and Winmau World Masters were up for grabs much to the general dismay of darts fans of a certain generation.
Despite rumours to the contrary Des Jacklin, the pantomime villain and final chairman of the BDO, didnât benefit from the sale and profits will instead be used to repay creditors from the demise of the BDO.
One positive outcome was the presentation of the BDO Ladies Trophy to 10 times ladies World Champion Trina Gulliver as a gift during the Champion of Champions Seniors Darts event in Blackpool.
Golden Gates
Leonard Gates has looked on the verge of a breakthrough since Covid lockdown events. Some even made him a favourite for last year’s Lakeside. But piece by piece The Soulger has put together the jigsaw puzzle and made an important breakthrough by claiming the aforementioned World Senior Darts Champion of Champions.
To come through from the floor qualifiers on the Friday before the event claiming the Golden Ticket , to defeat The Power and then go on to lift the trophy is a fairy story that Seniors darts and Championship Darts Circuit should also take some credit for.
Price Is Alright
Gerwyn Price may well have turned a corner. The âheadphonesâ incident at Ally Pally was possibly the low point of a patch spell for the former World Champion. He spent much of 2022 swinging between excellent performances in parts of events and then failing to turn up, or being outshone, at the end. The DW team detect a real spring in Gezzyâs step, a real upsurge in his form and even a better reaction from many crowds. Perhaps they are realising what they have at last?
Talking Points proved so popular that it is now the opening section of every issue of Darts World Extra
