Talking Points is a regular area of the Darts World Website and involves important or smaller pieces of news or those stories which may need longer exposure than the 24hrs cycle usually allows. Here are a hattrick from DWExtra 6
Attention and Care
The Josh Rock story should be more carefully approached than is currently the case. The remarkable rise of the youngster is superb to see and reminds us of at least two previous icons of our game. Both Eric Bristow and MVG achieved massive things at an even younger age than Rocky but both also had spells, after their initial breakthrough, when they might have fallen by the wayside.
Adam Smith Neale is a precautionary example of a remarkable teenage talent who then struggled to flourish at the elite level, fell away, and rebounded to win the World Masters. Yet to this day Adam has not found the consistent level his talent warrants.
Those predicting World titles and Majors for young Mr. Rock should take care to allow him the same room to breathe and develop the Eric and Michael enjoyed. CJHH
Black Arrows
The Sky Sports documentary screened last week had multiple layers of interest. Deta Hedman is truly remarkable in our sport and worthy of such attention. The additional social commentary and interest in promoting the game of darts to young players of all races, ethnicities, colours and creeds is an obvious good in itself and for our game across the globe.
But, personally, I long for the day when such features are made without the need for reference, or focus on, any protected characteristics.
Instead, our game will be celebrated for its ease of access, its level playing field, and its rapid global development. @JRLott2
Super Charged
The MODUS Super Series has pulled together some important but lesser-noticed strings of our game. Bringing in £1,000,000 to the area below the PDC’s elite professional sport. Before you just gloss over that fact, think about it again.
For more than 25 years the various non-PDC organisations tried to compete, build tours, gain TV coverage and tempt sponsors. Even allowing for inflation and the changing times I doubt any got anywhere near such a sum in a calendar year.
Wrapped up in the package is a way for those who have suffered a loss of form to find a path back. For those starting out to get noticed and those who are already moving up the ladder to test themselves. Add their new YouTube channel to your life! DW Ed.
